FBI raids house of animal rights terrorist (5/9/2003)

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided a house in Washington and hauled away computer hard drives, mailing and phone lists and fliers connected to the animal rights terror group Animal Liberation Front (ALF).

The recent search was part of an FBI investigation into animal rights terrorism. An FBI spokesman, Ray Lauer, could not comment on the case because it is still pending.

One of the residents of the house was Josh Harper, a long-time animal rights activist.

Harper has thrown a lighted flare and smoke canister at Native American whalers, charged through a police line outside a conference of bio-medical researchers, and participated in numerous demonstrations against the fur industry, animals in agriculture and other animal uses.

In 2001, he told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, "When you see the loss of 9 billion (animal) lives each year, it's inappropriate to hold a sign or pass out a petition. It's appropriate to go out and burn down the factory farm."
